True leadership

Joshua 1:10, "Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people..."
When we read of the success of Joshua, we tend to forget his failures. Joshua had not always had the ear and respect of the nation of Israel. There was a time in his life when he was dismissed and humiliated. In Numbers 13, Joshua along with Caleb were the only spies that were the "cheerleaders" to take the land of Canaan, the land that God had promised for them.
Dismissed and defeated by the other spies, maybe b/c of age or stature, we don't see or hear much of Joshua from this point. Until, in the book of Joshua when God transfers Moses leadership to him. Now, he is charged with the leadership of the whole nation of Israel. Now, by God's authority, He is the one calling the shots.
Could it be that God is looking for men who won't give up in the face of defeat. Men who will refuse to be offended. Men that continue to endure and continue to serve God NOT man. Men that God will one day honor there faithfulness.
That was Joshua.
